Councillors inspected the multi-million rand community hall which is now at an 80% completion stage.

The hall is expected to accommodate approximately 500 people, and it also consists of two offices, a kitchen, ablution facilities, water storage tanks and will be electrified.

The team then went to ward 16, under Umdoni speaker and ward councillor Mbali Cele-Luthuli, where they saw progress being made on the infamous Gumede Bridge.

Umdoni speaker Cllr Mbali Cele-Luthuli was part of the project inspection.

“The bridge is at a 45% completion rate and its completion is set to bring major relief to residents who currently use unfavourable alternative routes during inclement weather,” said Umdoni communications manager, Sphelele Cele.

Lastly, Mthobisi Mbutho Road in Ward 17 under Cllr Nonhlanhla Nkomo was visited which is now 75% complete.

This is a 2.2km road being upgraded to blacktop and will simultaneously receive proper cosmetic upgrades in line with the standard of tarmac upgrades.

The inspection committee was pleased with the work done to date.

Approximately 60 temporal job opportunities have been created through these three projects and chairperson Cllr Thabethe stated that these projects are expected to reach completion by the end of the year.
