Umdoni beefs up resources for refuse removal

In an eight week period, more refuse collection trucks are expected to be received.

Umdoni Municipality has decided to procure additional refuse collection trucks for seamless waste management services going forward following the ongoing refuse removal saga where refuse has not been picked up on scheduled days.

In eight weeks, the municipality will receive an additional three trucks to add to its current waste management fleet thus increasing the number of waste management trucks to seven. The sourced trucks include one industrial truck and two compactors.

The municipality is aware of the challenges surrounding waste management services and apologises for the inconvenience caused as a consequence of the intermittent refuse collection.

“We plead with residents and business communities to bear with us while we expedite the process of beefing up our resources,” said Thabisile Ndlela, the municipal manager.

“We assure the community that in about eight weeks, there will be a vast improvement in the execution of waste management services.”

The municipality further brings to the attention of the community that although refuse collection services are currently irregular, they are however continuing with the stretched resources. Daily collection schedules are communicated to all councillors and on the municipality’s Facebook page: Umdoni Municipality News.
