After 16 years of dialling the 08000 55 555 Childline helpline number, it will soon change to a three digit number – 116.
It will be the new and exclusive Childline South Africa toll-free helpline number for both children and families to call with child-related matters.
According to acting director of Childline KZN, Adeshini Naicker the old number will be phased out in the next two months.
“Presently both numbers work, the 116 number is the same as all child helplines in Africa. If a child from another country in Africa finds themselves in South Africa they will use the number they are familiar with and vice versa,” said Naicker
She said with the advancement of technology it makes sense to better their service to be more streamlined and easier to use.
She said as Childline they are excited because the new number is shorter and easier for children and adults to remember.
