Police give back through beach clean-up

The clean-up was done to conclude Mandela month.

To conclude Mandela month, Scottburgh Saps chose to give back to its community through a beach clean-up last Friday.

The Saps Men for Change and Women’s Network were part of this initiative.

Umdoni Municipality provided bin bags and beach manager Nomfundo Dlamini identified Park Rynie beach as the local beach which needed the most attention.

Saps members noticed the most common items found on the beach were plastic items, bottles, polystyrene cups and plastic packets.

The clean-up team also discovered a large amount of cable casings indicating that the beach was being used as a place for criminals to strip stolen cables.

Police have beefed up patrols in the area and appeal to the community to be its eyes and ears, and to report any suspicious persons or activities in the vicinity.

Scottburgh Saps station commander Colonel Ralph Ruiters applauded his members for their good deed in honour of the late former president Nelson Mandela this month.
