Sheppie Hawks part of Isipingo drug bust

The drugs found amounted to more than R100 000.

Two drug peddlers, aged 41 and 42, were recently taken off the streets.

A joint team comprised of Hawks members from Port Shepstone Serious Organised Crime Investigation, KZN Counter Narcotics and Durban Metro Police Drug Team executed a drug bust in the Malagazi informal settlement in Isipingo, south of Durban.

Acting on credible intelligence that narcotics were being stored in one of the dwellings on Postum Road, the members descended on the identified address.

Hawks spokesperson Warrant Officer Sibu Ncane said that during the search of the premises, a 41-year-old man was arrested with an assortment of drugs, which he was allegedly packing and preparing for sale, with an estimated street value of R39 190.

The man was arrested and charged with dealing in drugs.

The team proceeded to a second address on Shotex Lane, also in the Malagazi informal settlement, where a 42-year-old man was found in possession of a range of drugs valued at about R81 350 in street value.

He was arrested and charged with dealing in drugs.

Both men appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court recently.

The KZN Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation’s acting provincial head, Brigadier Anthony Sonosini Shezi, welcomed the arrest and praised the members for the good work.

He also said that this successful joint operation illustrates the unwavering commitment of law enforcement agencies in combating the illicit drug trade and restoring safety and security to communities.
