Hand in unwanted firearms to police

The public is advised to report any illegal firearms to the nearest police station.

Police are again making an urgent appeal for the public to hand in firearms in deceased estates if they do not wish to re-license them.

It’s stressed that if these firearms are not re-licensed, they are then classified as illegal firearms for which a person can be arrested.

In addition, if these firearms are stolen in a housebreaking and later recovered or used in a crime, they can be traced, and legal implications and possible prosecution may result.

Saps has an ongoing campaign to remove illegal and unwanted firearms, as these firearms can be used to commit serious and violent crimes if they fall into the hands of criminals.

In addition, the public is advised to report any illegal firearms to the nearest police station.

The Saps Port Shepstone designated firearms office is ready to assist persons with these firearms and can be contacted on 039 688 1008/1009.
