Holidaymakers robbed at knifepoint

The family believes that crime needs to be addressed in small holiday towns.

A recent getaway to Munster turned into a nightmare for two families after they were attacked by five knife-wielding men.

Police have confirmed the incident and are investigating a case of house robbery. No arrests have been made as yet.

Lesley and Arthur Reeves and their six-year-old grandson from Durban joined their friends and their two daughters, aged six and four, at their holiday home.

One evening, the families were confronted by five men, all masked and brandishing large daggers.

“They had entered the property by cutting a hole in the fence. Each assailant grabbed an adult and forced us to the ground, threatening to stab us. One smashed his fist into our friend’s face, while another pinned my husband and myself to the floor in the lounge. One stood in front of the children where their mother had managed to position herself to try and protect and calm them,” said Lesley.

Lesley added that once the assailants had control of each adult, they took all their personal belongings.

“When I could not remove my wedding ring, I was threatened with my finger being cut off. The fifth man gathered the cellphones on charge on the kitchen counter and then took handbags, a laptop and other items from the bedroom.”

They believe the screaming of the children was the reason for the robbers fleeing.

“The police were amazing, as well as the security company. The saddest part of the story is for the South Coast itself; we never want to come back. We spent no money at the attractions, and I believe that unless crime is addressed in small holiday towns, the South Coast will become derelict with no one willing to holiday and spend money, where they are unable to enjoy a carefree holiday or the facilities.”
