Marburg learner attacked for cellphone

A joint effort resulted in the arrest of man who allegedly robbed the learner.

A man who was arrested for stealing a learner’s cellphone was found carrying a knife used in the robbery.

Mi7 Armed Response teams from Port Shepstone were dispatched to a local school in Marburg after it was reported that a learner was robbed of a cellphone outside the school gate on Tuesday morning last week.

Mi7 National Group Director Colin David said Mi7 reaction officers, along with other security companies, spoke to the learner and obtained a detailed description of the man.
A joint team effort then ensued in a widespread search for the alleged robber.

“After some time, an individual matching the man’s description was spotted entering an informal settlement. The team swooped in, and the suspect was arrested,” said David.

He was found in possession of the stolen cellphone and a knife, believed to have been used in the robbery, as well as copper items, also believed to have been stolen.

The matter was handed over to the police for further investigation.
