Trial date set in soldier’s death case

The duo was arrested on January 11, 2021 and were granted bail in March 2021.

Two men, Durell Govender (25) and Reevek Ramlall (36) appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court on Monday this week on charges of attempted murder.

The case was postponed for trial to November 20.

The duo was arrested on January 11, 2021, after they allegedly drove over soldier Vishay Singh (22) outside his house in Ferndale Road, Palmview, on January 9, 2021.

They were granted bail in March 2021.

Singh had sustained multiple injuries, which included cervical spine, nasal, jaw, leg and rib fractures, internal bleeding as well as brain damage.

After the incident, Singh was moved from a public hospital to a private hospital by the military. He died in June 2021.

Singh had served in the SANDF, and 2021 would have marked his first official year as a soldier.
