Police nab drug dealers

At one suspects residence, a pistol was recovered, as well as live 9mm rounds of ammunition.

Police on the mid-South Coast have been working hard at ridding the streets of drugs.

Scottburgh Saps Vispol members, together with Port Shepstone’s Public Order Policing members, executed an operation at a residence in Amandawe Mission area last Thursday.

Saps received information about a man (40) allegedly dealing in drugs.

They searched the residence, and a pistol without a serial number was recovered, as well as live 9mm rounds of ammunition.

Police also found a counting machine, a large amount of cash, counterfeit cigarettes and a parcel containing crystal meth.

The man was arrested and faces charges in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court for possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, drugs, counterfeit cigarettes and money laundering.

Money found at the Amandawe Mission residence.

Two days before this discovery and arrest, Scottburgh Saps Rapid Response and Umzinto K9 members received information regarding a 44-year-old man who was selling drugs near a school in Park Rynie.

The members followed up and searched the man.

They found clear packets of khat, rock cocaine and crystal meth in his possession. He was also arrested and will also appear in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court on a charge of dealing in drugs.

Scottburgh Saps station commander Colonel Ralph Ruiters welcomed the arrests.

“I plead with the public to report drug dealers and any criminal activity to police. Only together can we make the area safer for all of us. We will act on information received to remove criminal elements from our policing area,” he said.
