Police recover stolen chicken

Two people were arrested.

A truck transporting frozen chicken packs for delivery in Harding was hijacked on the N2 at the Mbotho turn-off to Harding early on Monday morning last week.

It is alleged that two occupants in a bakkie blocked the road, forcing the truck driver to stop.

According to the Saps Corporate Communication office, the robbers forced the driver to drive further on where the chicken was offloaded into two bakkies.

Port Shepstone Highway Patrol and Saps K9 were alerted to the robbery and proceeded in the direction of Harding. En route, they passed a suspicious-looking bakkie loaded with white bags. They turned around and stopped the vehicle near Paddock.

The driver and his passenger were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property when they could not account for the frozen chicken.

Further investigation led police to Mkholombe in Port Shepstone, where a second bakkie was recovered with more chicken packs.

Both vehicles have been impounded. Two men are due to appear in court shortly. A case of robbery was opened for investigation at Harding Saps.
