Good sleuth work by South Coast detectives gets criminals behind bars

In one case, a man was sentenced for stabbing a woman seven times.

Hard work by Ugu District’s detectives secured the following convictions in May:

* Johan Victor (58) was sentenced for assaulting a man (24) at a pub in Umtentweni on October 21, 2023.
The Port Shepstone District Court sentenced Victor to a fine of R6000 or 12 months’ imprisonment, and an additional 12 months’ imprisonment wholly suspended for five years.
The investigating officer was Detective Sergeant Morne Jones of Port Shepstone Detective Service.

* Nkanyiso Dlamini shot a person (25) at a tavern in Scottburgh on November 10, 2021. He was arrested and remained in custody throughout his trial.
The Scottburgh Regional Court sentenced Dlamini to 10 years’ imprisonment for murder, two terms of three years each for possession of ammunition and possession of unlicensed firearm.
The investigating officer was Detective Warrant Officer Njabulo Latha.

* Arnold Anele Ngilande (26) stabbed a woman (63) seven times in Nkampini on June 10, 2023. She died of her injuries at Gcilima Clinic
The Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court handed Ngilande 15 years’ imprisonment of which three years is suspended for the murder.
He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
The investigating officer was Detective Sergeant Sbonelo Mlambo of Margate Detective Service.
