Hijacked taxi in Margate leads to high speed chase

The Airtrack team intercepted the vehicle on the N2 as it was travelling towards Durban.

Two vehicles were recovered in two separate hijacking incidents on the South Coast during the past week.

A Toyota Quantum was hijacked in Margate on May 13 at 11:00.
At the time, a message was posted on South Coast Crime Group, asking the public to be on the lookout for the stolen vehicle.

Hendrick Ludick of Airtrack X-Treme Security Recovery tracked and recovered the Quantum with the help of Port Shepstone Highway Patrol and K9.

Ludick explained that the hijackers had stopped to change number plates, but when they noticed the recovery team approaching, they jumped into a white VW Polo.

He said the patrol and K9 units chased after the getaway vehicle. Unfortunately, the hijackers managed to get away.

The following day, the owner of a Nissan NP200 was hijacked by three men with handguns at 19:50.

Airtrack was activated and tracked the vehicle to a forest in Hlokozi, inland of Mtwalume, known as a ‘high risk’ area.

Ludick said that on arrival at the scene, the hijackers noticed the recovery team and fired shots at them before fleeing into the forest, leaving the bakkie behind.

Further investigation revealed that the hijackers were probably looking for the tracking unit, which they couldn’t find.
