Child slain: Angry Umkomaas community seeks justice

After the man was taken into police custody, community members gathered outside the police station demanding that justice be served.

The body of a girl, believed to be about 10 years old, was found in the Umkomaas area earlier today.

This shocking discovery has angered locals, who are demanding justice be served.

According to several community members, the girl went missing yesterday (March 17).

Locals gathered to search for her throughout the day and night.

A man was arrested this morning after investigations were carried out and the body found.

Locals ransacked the man’s house and set his belongings alight.

After he was taken into police custody, the community went to the Umkomaas police station with many questioning whether or not he was still in custody.

Others asked that he be handed over to them.

At 17:00 this afternoon, there was heavy police presence outside of the station, ensuring that the situation remained calm.

“We just want to ensure that this man is kept behind bars as we fear what could happen to our families if someone like this is let out,” said William Hlange, a concerned local.

“We don’t understand how someone can do something like this to a child. All we want is justice.”

(This is a developing story and an official police report is awaited.)
