No arrest in woman’s murder

Nokubonga Mbhele said she was shocked at the news that her sister, Qondokuhle Mbhele had been shot dead.

Police have yet to make an arrest, after Qondokuhle Mbhele (25) was shot dead by unknown men in Nyandezulu on New Year’s Eve.
At the time, she was with a friend who escaped unharmed.
According to her aunt, Siza Mbutho, she was with friends on that evening, drinking and having fun.
She said she was bored and wanted to go to a tavern close-by.

“I was meant to go with her but my boyfriend asked me to remain behind because it was late, around 23:00. She left and in no time, we heard that she had been shot and killed.

Mbhele’s sister Nokubonga Mbhele said she was shocked at the news.

“We were living together but the night it happened I was not at home. The next day as I was walking home, I heard from someone that my sister had died.”

Mbhele said she has not heard from the police and no one has been arrested till now.
KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said a 25 year old woman was fatally shot, while a second victim managed to escape the scene unharmed.

“Paddock police are investigating a case of murder where two women were walking when they were approached by two armed men who opened fire towards them.”
Mbhele is survived by a four year old daughter.
