Beware of online fraudsters

Online scams are becoming common.

The public is repeatedly warned by police to be aware of fraudsters, especially online.

Saps has stated that it is always advisable to go to a reputable store or legitimate second hand dealer for bargains as fraudsters are smart and cunning, and often their deals sound legitimate.

People are reminded to think twice before depositing money into an unknown account for an item you saw on an online app.

“Items sold privately online do not carry a guarantee or return policy,” explained Scottburgh Saps communications officer, Captain Adam Francis.

“The seller requests payment even though the item is not seen physically by the buyer. Do not be fooled!”
“Victims have been defrauded of large amounts of cash for puppies, washing machines, vehicles, cellphones, and more.”

It must also be noted that fraudsters can hack into your social media account, pretend to be you and scam others who know you to trade in foreign currencies. After a deposit is made, the hacker moves on to another victim. This is now becoming common on various social media platforms.
