A man was arrested for dealing in drugs, possession of unlicensed firearm and live rounds of ammunition.

A 50 year old man in possession of R24 000 worth of drugs was arrested in Umkomaas last Friday.
Hawks members from Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Crime Intelligence, Crime Prevention and National Intervention Unit had received information about a man in possession of various drugs in Durban.

“A joint operation was swiftly conducted and he was spotted boarding a taxi,” explained Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Simphiwe Mhlongo.

“They followed that taxi to the South Coast and it was intercepted near Umkomaas off-ramp. The man tried to run away but was apprehended by the police.”

He was found in possession of heroin capsules, mandrax tablets, a firearm and 65 live rounds of ammunition.

The man has since appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court.
