Man killed on his way to wife’s memorial service

Witnesses to the accident are requested to contact the police on 039 688 1005/1003.

Port Shepstone Saps has opened a case of culpable homicide after Emmanuel Tshezi (49) was found dead on the R102, near the Port Shepstone Country Club on Sunday, July 30.

At the time of the incident, he was on his way to church, for his wife Nomonde’s one-year memorial service.

Police spokesperson, Captain Petros Mpinge said Tshezi’s body was found in Umtentweni at about 07:30 on that Sunday. “He had sustained multiple injuries and was declared dead on the scene.”

A friend of Tshezi’s and a councillor in the area, John Williams said the police suspects that it was a hit and run, and pleads with witnesses to come forward.

Cllr Williams said they became concerned when Tshezi did not arrive at the church.

“Nomonde died a year ago and he had asked that my wife and I be at our precious friend’s memorial due to our longstanding, close relationship with the family. He saw us as grandparents to their children, Olwethu and Rolly.

“We were at the church service only with Rolly and were so disappointed that he and Olwethu had not arrived. Little did we know that he had died.” said Williams.

He said it was a tragedy. “We have been unable to ascertain the facts of the accident. We are totally shattered for Rolly and Olwethu,” Williams added.

Anyone who witnessed the accident is requested to contact the police on 039 688 1005/1003.

Emmanuel Tshezi’s shoes was found at the accident scene.
