Cash in transit robbery foiled

One of the suspects died at the scene.

Police are investigating charges of attempted robbery and attempted murder after a shooting between suspects and security guards on the N2 near Sezela last Tuesday.

According to police, cash in transit security guards were performing their duties when they were ambushed by armed suspects on the N2.

“A shootout ensued, the suspects reportedly lost control of their vehicle and it veered into the bushes,” said Colonel Robert Netshiunda, Saps KZN Media Centre spokesperson.

“One suspect was found to have suffered a fatal gunshot wound and the second suspect sustained injuries and was taken to hospital for medical attention.”

A number of law enforcement groups were at the scene including Saps, medical services and security services, among others.

The cash in transit security guards are believed to have been unharmed.
