UPDATE: Shootout with cops in Umzinto leaves three men linked to murder case dead [WATCH]

The deceased are linked to a murder which they allegedly committed in Dududu in October 2022.

A man wanted for murder, and two suspected accomplices, were shot dead in a gun battle with police along the R612 road in Umzinto North yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon.

Police spokesman Colonel Robert Netshiunda said they had received operationalised intelligence information and cornered the men as they were leaving a mall in Scottburgh.

The police ordered the men to stop but the trio defied the lawful instructions and sped off. A high speed chase ensued with police continuing efforts to pull them over.

“With police closing in on the them, the men fired shots at police and a shootout ensued,” said Netshiunda.

After the gunfire the three men were found to have sustained fatal gunshot wounds.

No police officer was reported injured.
