Social media fraudster arrested

A woman has been arrested by local police.

Police have made an arrest after investigating a case of fraud which was registered by a victim in March this year.

According to Scottburgh Saps, it is alleged by the complainant that in June last year, she met a man on Facebook.

“The victim and the fraudster communicated and thereafter monies were transferred to him after he made ostentatious promises,” explained Scottburgh Saps communications officer, Captain Adam Francis.

Once she sent the money through and realised something was wrong, the victim went to the police.

The case was investigated by Detective Sergeant Nonkululeko Sibusisiwe Chiliza of Scottburgh Detective Service, and after a protracted investigation, it lead to the arrest of a 50-year-old woman whose banking account was linked to the matter.

She was arrested and remains in custody until November 24 for a formal bail application.

“The investigation is continuing with others that are implicated as well.”

An appeal is made by Captain Francis to the public not to make cash deposits and money transfers to individuals that you have never personally met.
