Five arrested for attempted murder

The victims were in a taxi when they were shot at.

Police arrested five suspects for the attempted murder of three taxi occupants near Scottburgh last Tuesday.

According to reports, at around 08:30 the victims were in a taxi driving towards the Dududu area when they were stopped by heavily armed security guards.

“They complied and as soon as their taxi came to a halt, the guards fired shots at the victims who escaped unharmed,” said Saps Ugu District spokesperson, Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo.

Traffic came to a standstill for several hours and motorists were instructed to find alternate routes to get in or out of Scottburgh, as police were hot on the heels of the suspects.

The suspects, aged between 34 and 41-years-old were nabbed and will face charges of attempted murder at the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court.

They were also found in possession of three rifles, two pistols and 130 rounds of ammunition which were all seized.
