Woman’s decomposed body found in Mtwalume

Mtwalume is now a place to dump dead bodies

Women in Mtwalume are living in fear after the gruesome discovery of a woman’s decomposed body in bushes on Monday afternoon last week.

Nombuso Sibisi, the chairperson of a women’s organisation and activist in the area said it hurts to hear such news.

“What hurts the most is that the woman’s family, wherever they are will not get the chance to bury her. The news of yet another woman being found dead in our area is shattering.

“As a woman and resident of Mtwalume I feel that the culprits are going beyond the limit. If one can remember we did have a serial killer in our area where women’s bodies were found daily, and also in the area where this woman’s body was found. It scares us as women” Sibisi added.

Police and a mortuary van at the scene.

She said she feels that the Mtwalume area has now become a dumping ground, recently the body of an unknown man was found in the area, however he was not from Mtwalume.

“I feel these killers are shaming our area and I believe that it is time that our police and law enforcement take action by conducting regular patrols just like they do in Murchison, Smith and in Nomakhanzana,” Sibisi pleaded.

She said they are living in fear as they don’t know what will happen and whose body will be found next.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala confirmed that the body was found by workers who were working on the R102.

“The body was wrapped in a bedsheet with blood stains, however did not have any visible injuries.

“The body was decomposed and has not been identified as yet,” Gwala confirmed.

She said that the motive for the killing is unknown, however investigations are continuing.

“We are appealing to anyone who might have information about the suspects, to contact the local police or Crime Stop on 08600 10111,”she concluded.
