Four arrested on drug charges

All four men were arrested within the Margate area last Friday.

Margate police have confiscated drugs in various targeted operations, and are focused on cleaning the area.

Last Friday, Margate Drug Task Team conducted an operation at the Margate taxi rank which led to the arrest of a 31-year-old man who was then charged for dealing in drugs.

Police spokesperson, Sgt Sibu Ncane said in another successful bust, police acted on information of drugs in transit and stopped a Toyota Quantum at St Michaels where a 27-year-old man was searched and found in possession of drugs. He was arrested.

Further investigation led the police to the 27-year-old’s house and a 34-year-old man was arrested on scene. Over 440 heroin capsules were confiscated.

“On the same evening police received information of another man who was transporting drugs at Margate Extension 3. Police responded and targeted a vehicle fitting the description given. The vehicle was searched and drugs were found in a headlight.”

All four accused appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court and the case was postponed to December 19 for further investigation. The accused remain in custody.

The Margate Station Commander, Brigadier William Slabbert commended the officers for their relentless fight against drugs in their policing area as well as the public for reporting drug dealers.
