Margate rapist handed life sentence

Police urge children to speak out about sexual crimes.

Vusumuzi Alpheus Blose (58) of Gcilima, Margate was recently sentenced to life imprisonment in the Port Shepstone Regional Court for the repeated rape of a 14-year old girl.

Captain Petros Mpinge said the teen reported the incidents to a social worker, and a case was opened at Margate police station.

Blose was arrested and remained in police custody throughout the trial. The investigating officer in the case was Detective Constable Thembile Sengane.

Captain Nivi Lutchminarain, branch commander of Margate Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS), said it is important for victims, especially children to keep speaking to teachers, parents, religious leaders and any trustworthy adult so that a case can be opened by police.

“Children are especially vulnerable to rape and are often raped by persons known to them. All victims can be sure of a thorough investigation and that they will be treated with the utmost dignity and compassion by our members.”
