TRAFFIC WARNING: Marine Drive rehabilitation has started

More than 25km of Marine Drive will be rehabilitated between Southbroom and Port Shepstone over a period of 30 months

The long-awaited rehabilitation project for Marine Drive, the main road which connects Southbroom and Port Shepstone, has finally started.

The project was launched by the Department of Transport, MEC Sipho Hlomuka, in June. At the time, he announced that the project will be constructed in one phase, and will be done by Raubex, one of the largest road construction companies.

Marine Drive road has long needed an upgrade.

Raubex announced that work commenced on Wednesday and that 17.8km to 20.2km of the road will be done by November 30.

The company said the left lane towards Port Shepstone will be closed and traffic flow will be directed to the right lane only.

Raubex urged residents living along the road to make sure that they stay aware of the traffic flow they wish to join before reaching the road surface.

Raubex also warned that the left lane will be excavated and will not be possible to pull onto.

Motorists have also been urged to take alternate routes to avoid being stuck in traffic.

More communication will be sent out if there are any changes.
