Volleyballers display winning streak at Islamic School

As-salaam Educational Institute and Orient Islamic School faced each other in both the Open and U17 divisions in the final.

The Association of Muslim Schools KZN Boys’ Volleyball tournament was hosted by Port Shepstone Islamic School at the Marburg Volleyball Courts.

Scores of players from Braemar, Durban and Stanger graced the tournament where the U17 and Open divisions vied for the coveted awards.

The tournament took a round-robin format, thereafter the top two teams with the highest score played each other in the final.
Strangely enough, As-salaam Educational Institute and Orient Islamic School faced each other in both divisions in the final.

Orient’s Open division continued with their winning streak remaining unbeaten and clinching the trophy.
The spirited and resilient As-Salaam team were not to be outdone as they took their share of the spoils by winning the U17 division in a nail biting final.

Open division special awards: Best setter – Abdul Bassiet – Port Shepstone Islamic; best attacker – Abdul Kareem – As-Salaam Educational Institute; most valuable player – Zayd Hassim – Orient Islamic School.
U17 division awards: Best setter – Tufayl Abubakr – Ihsaan Boys’ College; best attacker – Haaris Ahmed – Orient Islamic School; most valuable player Lwazi Chiya – As- Salaam Educational Institute.

The Best Sportsmanship Award was awarded to Phoenix Muslim School.
The Port Shepstone Volleyball Association is thanked for the use of the facilities and making available personnel to officiate the matches.
