Accident claims two lives on P200 near Gamalakhe

The driver and the one passenger who died in the accident were both members of the Gamalakhe Taxi Association.

Two lives were lost on Wednesday afternoon after a taxi and a bakkie collided head-on near on the P200 just before the Gamalakhe intersection.

Lana van Zyl of  MedEvac Emergency Medical Services said two people were entrapped and had to be extracted by Med-Evac paramedics and Ray Nkonyeni Municipality Fire and Rescue Services.

“One was declared dead on scene while six passengers were critically injured. There were multiple serious injuries and several minor injuries,” said van Zyl.

Patients were treated on scene before being transported to various medical facilities.

She said Med-Evac, Netcare 911, EMRS and Trauma 911 worked together, stabilising the patients before transporting them to appropriate medical facilities.

According to other sources, one of the critical patients, the driver of the taxi, died on arrival at the medical facility.
