Umdoni addresses Umzinto protest action

The affected community is requested to exercise patience while action is being taken to revert services to normality.

Umdoni Municipality stated that it is aware of the current protest action in Umzinto today (August 1) by protesters of the nearby informal settlement as a result of their disgruntlement over issues of sanitation services.

“The municipality assures the Umzinto community at large that it is working towards resolving this issue through the devising of a progressive plan for a way forward,” explained Umdoni communications manager, Sphelele Cele.

“Umdoni, Ugu District Municipality and Department of Human Settlement met yesterday and during this sessions, it was resolved that the current service provider will resume sanitation services.”

“The municipality firmly understands the implications of the absence of sanitation services, hence it is ensuring it expeditiously deals with this matter.”

Cele said the service provider, as per the meeting resolution, will reinstate services today, and that the affected community is requested to exercise patience while action is being taken to revert services to normality.

The municipality also apologised to the affected community and business community that has to bear the brunt of the protest.
