The top performing municipalities and schools will be announced at the provincial awards.

The Ugu District has placed first in KwaZulu-Natal and eighth in South Africa for the National Senior Certificate 2022 matric results.

This was announced in Pretoria yesterday by Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga.

In 2021, Ugu also placed first in KZN, with a pass rate of 80.4%.

The Class of 2022 saw that increase by nearly seven percent, with an 87,2%, comfortably exceeding its target of going beyond 80%.

“The average for KZN was 83%, jumping six percent from the 77% it had received previously,” said Motshekga.

Teacher unions Naptosa and Sadtu congratulated the Class of 2022 for its resilience and strength in embracing the ‘abnormal’ schooling conditions, especially in their Grade 10 year.

The provincial top achievers awards are being held in Durban today.

A breakdown on the top performing schools and learners will hopefully be announced during the course of the day.
