Residents cut verges in Umbango

Overgrown grass verges cut down by residents

Tired of waiting to have their verges cut and litter picked up, residents of Torwood Crescent, Umbango started cleaning the road themselves at the beginning of December.

One resident said they started the clean up because of poor service delivery from the municipality. “Trees and verges are overgrown and it is difficult for motorists and pedestrians to travel on the road. Litter is strewn all over and is never picked up and it’s an eyesore.”

Litter has not been picked up along Torwood Crescent.

It is hoped that other areas will also make an effort to do the same. “We can’t let our roads look so bad. We had to step in and get it cleaned.”

Residents are also concerned about their safety as the overgrown verges are perfect hiding spots for criminals. They added that crime has increased in Umbango and Marburg.
