Photographic society bags awards

Local photographers win countrywide competition with well over 100 clubs participating.

The Hibiscus Coast Photographic Society (HCPS) recently won a shield as the best overall photographic society in KwaZulu-Natal in a competition run by the Photographic Society of South Africa.

“Ian Taylor won best picture with ‘gliding on a thermal’, I was the runner-up for my photo of a sub-adult lion with a stick, Michelle Pearson won runner-up with her image ‘my territory’ and Juan Venter won best picture with ‘harmony pillars’ with Elsabe du Toit runner-up with her photo ‘going deep’.

“We are a small club, about 45 members, of which about 25 are active. Our club has been in operation for a number of years, but it is mainly in the past 12 years that the standard of our photography has grown and we slowly but surely ensured that other photographers countrywide began to notice us,” said Kay.

She said the society is fortunate to have some talented photographers.
