Motorist escapes ‘yoghurt’ attack

Parents are urged to educate their children about the dangers of throwing items out of car windows.

A motorist had a hair-raising experience after an object was thrown at his vehicle’s windscreen last Friday afternoon.

Nigel Sayers of Port Shepstone was driving along Izotsha Road towards Port Shepstone when a container of strawberry flavoured yoghurt was hurled at his car.

The yoghurt landed on the windscreen and for a moment Sayers couldn’t see out.

“I saw a taxi carrying school children travelling towards me. I didn’t think much of it, until I saw the yoghurt container being thrown at my car,” said Sayers.

He feels the incident was planned and done deliberately as only the taxi was near his car.

Sayers urges parents to educate their children on road safety, and not to throw items at passing cars, especially at night.

He said he knew of a friend who once had a coke bottle thrown at this car, causing him to veer off the road and crash.

“Throwing an item at a moving car can be a life-threatening and extremely dangerous,” he added.

On a general note, motorists, passengers and pedestrians are frequently seen throwing rubbish out of their cars onto the street.
