In dark days, South Coast Hospice continues to shine

The 'You Matter' project has also been launched and hospice urges the community to support it.

South Coast Hospice recently held its 39th annual general meeting in Port Shepstone.

Chairman David Boyd noted that the past year had been very challenging, with the restrictions imposed both locally and overseas, arising from the Covid-19 pandemic, impacting lives in many ways.

In addition, the civil unrest in July 2021 had exposed a serious risk to citizens.

Treasurer Richard Savage spoke about the privilege of being associated with and to serve an organisation as professional and caring as South Coast Hospice.

CEO Diane van Dyk spoke about the purpose of hospice within the community, especially in terms of those who are truly vulnerable.

She welcomed on board the mental health team; a newly initiated programme on the care and support of people living with mental health challenges, who are often misunderstood.

The theme of the AGM was of around the Port Shepstone lighthouse and she acknowledged all those in the community, who, through their generous giving enable hospice to ‘shine our light’.

In closing, the ‘You Matter’ project was launched; Siyaduduza- we comfort: You matter because you are you.

At some point you might receive a unique tiny teddy and hospice asks you to ‘keep me for a while and pass me forward with a smile’.
