Hiker rescued from nature reserve

A Sunday hike turned terribly wrong for a hiker.

A woman had to be rescued after she fell while hiking in the Umtamvuna Nature Reserve, last Sunday morning.

Craig Botha of Kwazulu Private Ambulance Service said that when emergency services arrived they found that a hiker had fallen about two kilometres along the trail.

Paramedics together with Port Edward National Sea Rescue Institute, Saps Search and Rescue and Ray Nkonyeni Fire and Rescue services hiked to the patient and found she had sustained a serious injury to her leg.

“The hiker was stabilised and then transported by an NSRI boat back to a safe area where the ambulance was waiting to transport her to hospital,” he said.
