Carjacking suspect sought by police

Mpinge said a 25-year-old man alleged that while he was traveling along Convent Road, a white Toyota Corolla overtook and blocked his vehicle.

Port Shepstone police urges the public to help in tracking down a carjacking suspect.

According to Port Shepstone police spokesperson, Captain Petros Mpinge, the Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit is investigating a case of carjacking which occurred in Umzinto in February.

Mpinge said a 25-year-old man alleged that while he was traveling along Convent Road, a white Toyota Corolla overtook and blocked his vehicle.

“Four suspects all armed with hand guns, jumped out and pointed the firearms at the complainant and three other occupants of his car. The victim was pulled out of his vehicle and the other three men ran into the nearby bushes. The suspects took the vehicle and fled. None of the victims were injured,” said Mpinge.

He added that with the assistance of the complainant, the police were able to produce an identikit of the possible suspect. He said should the public see the suspect, they are urged to contact the nearest police station or Detective Sergeant Velemseni Cele on 039 685 9200 or 079 5000 863.
