Craig Botha of Kwazulu Private Ambulance Service said paramedics had responded to the accident in Marine Drive in Shelly Beach.

Popular biker and businessman, Wayne Upfold (51) of Izotsha, who was involved in a serious motorcycle accident last Saturday evening, sadly died four days later.

Upfold’s wife, Belinda said her husband’s accident had left him with severe head trauma.

She said he was airlifted to St Ann’s Hospital in Pietermaritzburg on the night of the accident, but despite best efforts from doctors and specialists, he died of his injuries yesterday (Wednesday).

She thanked the community for its support during this extremely difficult time.

Craig Botha of Kwazulu Private Ambulance Service said paramedics had responded to the accident in Marine Drive in Shelly Beach.

“When emergency services arrived they found that there had been a collision involving a motorcycle and a vehicle. Paramedics quickly assessed the scene and found that Upfold had sustained critical injuries and had gone into cardiac arrest,” said Botha.

Botha explained further that officers from Ray Nkonyeni Fire and Rescue services swiftly started cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) efforts and paramedics continued advanced life support resuscitation until Upfold regained a heart beat.

“Upfold was stabilised before being transported to hospital for further treatment and stabilisation, and later airlifted to a specialist facility,” said Botha.

Botha thanked Ray Nkonyeni Fire and Rescue services for its swift efforts in starting CPR at the crash scene.
