The untimely death of Sergeant Topsy Khwela of Scottburgh Saps in a vehicle accident has stunned the mid-South Coast community, and left many of her friends, family and colleagues heartbroken.

It is believed that she was driving a vehicle at the sani2c race when the accident occurred near Highflats, last Friday.

Sergeant Khwela joined the Saps on July 11, 2005.

“She was very positive and executed her tasks in a professional manner and was an ambassador of the Saps,” said Scottburgh Saps communications officer, Captain Adam Francis.

“She was a firm supporter in advocating no abuse against women and children and was the coordinator of gender based violence at the station.”

Sergeant Khwela worked in Social Crime Prevention and hosted many crime awareness programmes in schools and at gatherings.

She was also the women’s network champion of Scottburgh Saps.

“No task was too difficult for the late Sergeant Topsy Khwela and she will be missed by her family, colleagues and the community,” added Scottburgh Saps station commander, Colonel Ralph Ruiters.

A memorial service will be held at Umzinto town hall this Thursday (19th) at 10:30.
