Umzumbe post office robbed, guard tied up

The security guard was tied up and taken to another location.

A substantial amount of cash was taken by robbers from the Umzumbe post office, last week Thursday in the evening. Police are investigating a case of business robbery after a security guard was held at gunpoint by three unknown masked men.

Police spokesperson, Captain Petros Mpinge confirmed the robbery which occurred at about 20:00. “The armed men entered through a hole in the roof after tying up the security guard. The suspects fled with a substantial amount of cash in a white bakkie. They dropped off the security guard in Mellville,”said Capt Mpinge. Once freed, the security guard reported the incident to police.
