The municipality has also received extra support from the South African Defence Force (SANDF), which today (Tuesday) has been deployed to the district to offer both technical and additional potable water support to the affected areas.

The Herald has been inundated with calls from readers wanting to know the current water situation.
France Zama, spokesman of Ugu District Municipality, said the extent of damage to water infrastructure in the district has caused some major delays to the restoration of water supply to most areas under Umdoni and Ray Nkonyeni municipalities.
Following the aftermath of the recent torrential rains, our water services technical teams, together with the appointed contractors, have been assigned to the affected areas to rebuild damaged water infrastructure in order to restore water supply to the affected areas.
Progress made to date in the restoration of water supply to some areas has been stalled due to emerging frailties on the water supply network.
Repairs in the Domba River, posted on the Ugu District Facebook page on April 27.
Most areas in Port Shepstone and surrounding areas have been restored, however the northern area has been stalled due to a major pipeline leak discovered between Umtentweni and Sea Park.
Repairs are currently under way, together with the repairs of the 300mm pipeline leak below the Mzimkhulu low level bridge at Batstone’s Drift, after which Umtentweni to Hibberdene’s supply should be restored.
Progress has been made to the restoration of water supply to areas under Umdoni local municipality, whose supply was severely affected by the destruction caused to the South Coast main bulk line whose repairs have been completed.
Teams are currently monitoring and attending to areas whose recovery has been delayed due to systems frailties that arose after the opening of supply.
The municipality is aware of the areas where restoration of water supply has not been fulfilled.
In such areas water relief supply is being provided water tankers until the supply systems have fully recovered.
The volume of calls coming through our call centre has rapidly increased and our call centre agents shall endeavour to respond to all calls made. And we appeal for calm and patience during this period while the rebuilding process is underway – France Zama, spokesman of Ugu District Municipality
The municipality has also received extra support from the South African Defence Force (SANDF), which today (Tuesday) has been deployed to the district to offer both technical and additional potable water support to the affected areas.
