UVONGO CRASH: Father and daughter (12) killed

The road was closed off and traffic forced to reroute past the beach but is now open again.

A man and his 12 year-old daughter were killed in an accident on the R620 in Uvongo, near the old bird park, earlier today. A second daughter, aged 10, is in critical condition, having been rushed to hospital by Netcare 911 medics.
Paramedics said that despite their best efforts to save the father and 12 year-old, they died on the scene.

Craig Botha of Kwazulu Private Ambulance Service said that when emergency services arrived they found that the driver had lost control of the vehicle, left the road and collided into a tree.

Botha said paramedics stabilised the patients and, together with Ray Nkonyeni Fire and Rescue services, worked to free them using specialised vehicle rescue equipment.

Paramedics quickly assessed the scene and found that, initially, the three patients had sustained critical injuries.

Botha said the father and older daughter “deteriorated during the extrication and, despite advanced life support interventions, were declared dead on scene”.

The 10 year-old was transported by Netcare 911 to hospital for treatment.
