Umzinto Saps’ first woman admin clerk retires

After 40 years of service, Maliga Reddy, the first woman to have been employed as an administration clerk at the Umzinto police station, has retired.

Reddy began her career at the station on October 5, 1981 and retired recently.

She performed duties in various administrative positions and retired as a chief account clerk at the level of personnel management and general support.

She had seen many colleagues and commanders come and go during that time.

Lieutenant Colonel Theresa Pillay, a former station commander at Umzinto Saps, had worked closely with Reddy for several years and with help, planned a grand party to bid farewell to their colleague.

The retirement celebration was held at Blue Marlin Hotel last week and was attended by Reddy’s former colleagues, family and friends.

Major General Sethenya Nxamagele, the Ugu District Commissioner, was the guest of honour and her speech perfectly described Reddy as an individual as well as an employee in the service before congratulating her and wishing her well.

Everyone enjoyed great meals and were entertained by musician and vocalist, Sergeant Theo Pillay.

Reddy is wished a happy retirement.
