In my view: Alopecia has become a sensitive topic

I only thought that people lost their hair because of cancer treatment, I didn't know that injibaba (receding hairline) is also a type of alopecia.

Today I will talk about something a little bit serious – alopecia. According to Google this is a medical term used for baldness.

In most cases it’s when a person loses some hair, but sometimes a person with alopecia can lose all their hair.

I only thought that people lost their hair because of cancer treatment, I didn’t know that injibaba (receding hairline) is also a type of alopecia.

There are 20 types of this condition and it affects both men and women.

I didn’t know about this condition until Will Smith got up and slapped Chris Rock after he made a joke about his wife, Jada’s hair condition at the Oscars.

What a slap from the tall guy!

I have always known of impandla (bald spot) which is very common in men and somehow it’s acceptable that men have it.

But with us women it’s a different case, when a woman starts losing her hair, she loses herself in the process.

We wear our hair as crowns, we feel beautiful when our hair is done now imagine suddenly losing your hair. It takes away the feeling of beauty, self esteem and the love for yourself which is why some women wear wigs all the time.

Growing up I have always had too much hair, even now I have never used anything to grow my hair, the volume of my hair is insane it’s even worse when I haven’t maintained it for long (such as now).

I can only imagine how Jada felt when she was made a joke of because of her lack of hair, it’s almost the same thing as being made fun of because of your weight.

I’ve never experienced hair loss where I have lost my self esteem or felt uncomfortable but I can imagine losing hair because of a medical condition is not funny!

According to a medical definition, the condition occurs when white blood cells attack the cells in hair follicles, causing them to shrink and dramatically slow down hair production.

Interestingly it can also be caused by stress, by wearing wigs all the time or often and plaiting hair.

Going back to the joke made by Chris, social media has been going crazy! Some people are saying he was out of line (to some extent I agree), but do comedians know when to draw the line?

Some say Will should have said something after the awards and not slapped the man in front of the whole world.

Comedians will say anything about anyone about every situation and we laugh, but maybe just maybe they should tone it down a bit.

The Smith family has been making headlines for some time and honestly I feel this is too much for them, maybe they should just lay low and just focus on fixing themselves.
