Morale boosting race for Striders in Pinetown

Striders running captain, Emmanuel 'MK' Mufamadi, said the race was used to boost morale and confidence

Eight members from the South Coast Striders Athletics Club took part in the Pinetown and Districts Athletics Club (PDAC) Run/Walk, the third Official race on the KZN Athletics running calendar, last Sunday.

The 25km distance race, organised by Pinetown Athletics Club, began at Watercrest Mall and finished at Lahee Park in Pinetown.

Striders running captain, Emmanuel ‘MK’ Mufamadi, said the race was used to boost morale and confidence, especially for novices and newly recruited members.

Peter Brino Chidzungu (right) won the 40 to 49 age group category in the Pinetown and Districts Athletics Club (PDAC) Run/Walk.

It also served as preparation for the upcoming Comrades Marathon qualifier at the end of February.

“The route forms part of the Comrades Down Run (which will be held in August) and was accompanied by perfect running conditions,” he said.

The club’s top three runners, Brino Peter Chidzungu, Sanele Wayise and Asanda Mtshiki, had decent results, Peter finishing ninth overall and first in his age category (40-49).

Sanele and Asanda were both in the top 10 in their age category.

It was a first official race in Striders colours for Khatija Essack and Nadine Young.
