Manhunt for rapist

Private investigator Brad Nathanson, who is working on the case, said the rapist managed to get into the house, and then tie-up the two women by using cellphone cords.

The small, seaside suburb of Sea Park has been rocked by a recent spate of crime.

Since December, incidents of rape, attempted rape and murder, and even a shooting (mostly in the Ocean Drive area) have left residents in the area shaken.

A woman was raped in her mother-in-law’s home last Thursday. The incident happened in the early afternoon.

Private investigator Brad Nathanson, who is working on the case, said the rapist managed to get into the house, and then tie-up the two women by using cellphone cords.

Putting their minds and time together to track down the criminals terrorising Sea Park are (from left) Private investigator Brad Nathanson, Karel Beetge of Gladiator Security and his son, Dewald Beetge with John Irven (Southport CPF chairman) and Sergeant Vicky Lattin (sector commander of Southport Sector 1).

“The intruder, carrying a handgun ransacked the house, bullied and tortured the two women for two hours, before raping one of them,” he said.

Nathanson said that one of the cellphones linked to the case has since been recovered, and a suspect has been detained.

The man has since been charged with possession of stolen property.

No further arrests have been made, and the rapist is still very much at large.

Police spokesman, Captain Petros Mpinge confirmed that Southport Saps detectives are investigating a case of house robbery and rape.

Capt Mpinge said the suspect fled with a laptop and three cellphones. “The complainant managed to untie herself and press the panic button,” he added.

It is believed that the suspect meets the following description: dark complexion, tall, aged between 25 and 30, shaven head, droopy eyes and thick lips, no shoes and was wearing a dark red T-shirt and navy blue knee length pants at the time.

On Tuesday, January 4 it was reported that a young man and woman were attacked by a man armed with a firearm in Sea Park while they were walking along a pathway, towards the railway line during the day.

They were robbed of their cellphones.

The youngster was shot in the leg while his friend was pulled into the bushes by the suspect, where he tried to rape her.

Luckily, the woman managed to escape and the attacker fled towards Tweni.

Southport detectives are investigating a case of attempted murder, robbery and attempted rape.

Cpt Mpinge confirmed that no arrest has been made as yet.

Nathanson says he has since received further reports of other worrying incidents from the area.

“A woman contacted me about having a knife wielding intruder in her home in Sea Park. The man, dressed entirely in black, ransacked her house and tied her up.”

He said there was also another incident where a man carrying a gun, was caught on video footage stealing shoes off a veranda.

Nathanson said he was scared for women living alone and called for the men in their lives to make sure their properties are safe and secure.

“What is currently happening in Sea Park is an act of terrorism,” he added.

The Southport Sector Crime WhatsApp group has asked residents not to ignore any individuals hanging around their home and to call Saps on 10111 or 039 681 9900 or to call their security company.

Anyone with any information can contact Nathanson on 083 2502007.
