WATCH: River berm washed away, pumps not working, it’s a mess!

Communities can expect water cut offs for the next few days.

Only one of three water pumps are working at the St Helen’s Rock pump station, this might be the reason why most areas do not have water currently.

Democratic Alliance (DA) leadership today visited the pump station, Bhobhoyi dam, Bhobhoyi treatment plant and the river berm.

The river berm that cost R3.7 million has been washed away and this is not the first time.

At the pump station only one pump is able to pump water into the Bhobhoyi dam, which has resulted in the dam’s water level to be very low.

It seems as if, if the dam does not fill up then the water treatment plant in Bhobhoyi will not be able to continue with production.

There is also a huge water leak at St Helen’s Rock causing the water to go back to  the pump station and not into the pipes.

Councillor Doug Rawlins, Leon Garbade, Ajith Rajaram, Andries Kruger and Jean Schmidt (Ugu councillor) were on a mission to find out what the real issue is.

Before they could inspect the Bhobhoyi plant, head of security from Ugu stopped them as these councillors did not have permission to be on the premises.

DA caucus chairperson Lean Garbade said in a statement released today, that they will be engaging with the Ugu municipal manager regarding what they found out today.
