Batstone bridge water leak raises concerns

A local businessman Nico van Rensburg who enjoyed a paddle upstream recently said it seems like purified water, and it has been gushing for months now.

For months the waterpipe under the Batstone bridge has been gushing and water going to waste.

Most paddlers have seen this huge water leak and said they have been hoping it will get fixed soon.

Local paddler Willie Kunz said he has been complaining to Ugu Municipality for quite some time but nothing has happened.

“I’ve been complaining to Ugu about this massive water leak on the low level bridge. The water pipe connects the south and north suburbs.”

A local businessman Nico van Rensburg who enjoyed a paddle upstream recently said it seems like purified water, and it has been gushing for months now.

He added this fresh drinking water is going into the river and being wasted.

During the holiday season there were areas which did not have water.

Some areas were getting rusty water and some are still without water, and there has been no help from Ugu.

Areas like Gamalakhe and Margate have not had fresh drinking water for weeks.

The Herald contacted Ugu for comment but no response was received at the time of going to print.
