Tidy Town project makes a difference on South Coast

The campaign aims to see the South Coast take back its towns, working with Ray Nkonyeni Municipality.

The Southern Explorer Tidy Town campaign has kicked-off with a bang this festive season.

Founder Vicky Wentzel said they have taken back their towns, and are working closely with Ray Nkonyeni Municipality to achieve this.

St Mike’s Beach is their first pilot project, whereby the car guards will be given Tidy Town t-shirts and caps to wear.

Wentzel said business owners and caring residents have stepped in to work with RNM Law Enforcement, Saps and private security to create a zero tolerance policy during this busy period.

“There will be no drinking in public as this leads to crime and grime,” she added.

Wentzel said Southern Explorer will go on tour to visit 20 top beaches in South Africa to not only hand out their magazines but encourage beachgoers to come visit and explore the KZN South Coast and what our coastline has to offer.

Another exciting initiative is the recycling project called ‘Protect Paradise. Plastic doesn’t belong here’. This will be carried out at St Mike’s, Margate, Ramsgate and Southbroom beaches.

Wentzel called on all residents to volunteer their skills (gardening, photography etc) for only three hours a year.

“If everyone gave back to our towns we would see huge improvements which would benefit everyone,” she said.
