Child (4) survives near drowning

Rudi Prinsloo of Medevac said if it weren't for the prompt response of lifeguards on duty the boy (4) may have drowned.

With temperatures rising, rescue services have had their hands full in the last two weeks. On Tuesday this week, Saps Search and Rescue and Medevac responded to a near drowning at Margate children’s swimming pool.

Rudi Prinsloo of Medevac said if it weren’t for the prompt response of lifeguards on duty the boy (4) may have drowned. “The lifeguards did five minutes of CPR on the child before he was taken to hospital. He is currently in ICU and is expected to make a recovery,” he said.

Prinsloo said a police helicopter has been used in the search for a 20-year-old Johannesburg man who went missing while swimming at Glenmore Beach last Monday.

“Unfortunately we have been unable to find the missing swimmer,” he said.

The helicopter also assisted in the search for a man (23) who went missing while trying to cross the Mzimkhulu River last week.

Prinsloo confirmed that rescue teams managed to find his body on Monday this week.
