In order to promote cancer awareness, as well as support local NPO Khanya Hospice, communities are asked to support the annual pink drive.
Supporters can purchase four metres of pink material from the Amanzimtoti Rotary Club for just R100 bearing in mind that the proceeds will go to Khanya Hospice.
The organisation is not government-funded, and because of its big annual hospice fair fundraiser being cancelled last year and this year due to Covid-19, support for this initiative is much-needed to generate funds.
Hospice offers free palliative nursing care to people in the area and the nursing staff are only able to offer these free services because of the many generous people who either donate money, items or support drives such as this one.
“We deal with cancer patients on a daily basis and also offer our services to HIV and TB patients,” explained Neil McDonald, CEO of Khanya Hospice.
“Cancer is real and people need information and help and we just cannot get away from that. Families are in shock when a loved one is diagnosed. They are numb, they are looking for answers, they are looking for help and that is why awareness campaigns like this are important,” added Neil.
The pink drive can be supported by individuals, companies, clubs and even schools.
